Need another reason to get cracking with booking your wedding venue? There are over 118,000 weddings held in Australia each year (118, 962 in 2013, to be exact). In fact, for every 1000 people, five of them are set to tie the knot this year. Yep, that’s a lotta competition from other couples (no pressure!).

If you’ll be 29 when you say your forever vows, then according to the clever staristicians at ABS, you’re of the median age to wed in Oz. And according to the numbers, it’s likely your groom is exactly two years older (though not necessarily wiser) than you. In 2013, the median age at marriage was 29.5 for brides, and 31.5 for grooms.

Are you opting to have a civil celebrant officiate your wedding? You’re among three-quarters of Aussie couples.  This has been the most popular choice for couples tying the knot since 1999, and now a whopping 72.5% of all marriages are overseen by a civil celebrant.

Most of those set to walk down the aisle this year are doing so for the first time. Around four-fifths of brides (81.3%) and grooms (73.7%) have never been hitched before. Need some advice on pulling off the big day? Speak to one of the 20% of brides who’ve been there, done that once already.
