So, your story probably went a little something like this: boy meets girl, they fall in love, boy pops the question, girl starts planning madly for The Biggest Day Of Their Lives. Yep, the countdown is on for your wedding (aka the first day of your happily ever after) – and the pressure is on! The photos of you and your hubby on your wedding day are ones you’ll look at many times in the years to come – so it pays to make sure you’re truly looking and feeling your best. And the best place to start? A beautiful smile.
Want to get sparkly, shiny whites, plump lips and glorious skin? We’ve consulted the experts and broken it down into a nifty little timeline of exactly what to do and which products to use in the lead-up to your wedding day to achieve the perfect smile.

Visit your dentist for a check-up. According to Oral-B dentist Dr Christopher Ho, this is super important! “Regular visits to the dentist are essential for maintaining healthy teeth, gums and a bright, white smile,” says Dr Ho. “I recommend that my patients schedule appointments every six months for a professional clean and so that any problems can be caught early and treated easily.”

Take inventory of any stain-causing foods and beverages in your diet and aim to reduce your intake as much as possible in the lead-up to your big day. We’re talking coffee, black tea, red wine, cherries and blueberries. “The most common culprits which will discolour your teeth are tea, coffee and red wine, so consider eliminating or reducing these in the lead up to your nuptials,” says Dr Ho.

Upgrade your toothpaste. Look for a whitening product that’s going to help make your teeth as sparkly white as possible! “I’d suggest replacing your usual toothpaste with a whitening one, such as Oral-B 3D White LUXE Glamorous toothpaste, which can remove 90% of surface stains in just 5 days,” says Dr Ho. “But for brides looking for an extra boost, try Oral-B’s 3D White Whitestrips – they are formulated with the same key ingredient used by dentists to whiten teeth and are applied to your teeth for 30 minutes twice a day while you do your makeup, watch TV or prepare dinner.“
This is also the time to upgrade your toothbrush. “You should replace a manual toothbrush about every 3 months – even sooner if there are signs of wear,” says Dr Ho. It also pays to be picky when choosing a brush. “A common mistake many people make is they think the harder they brush the better. Actually, brushing too hard can weaken and remove the white surface enamel in your mouth. I recommend a soft bristled brush and gentle application of pressure on the teeth. Also, don’t forget to floss your teeth as stains will often develop between your teeth!”.
Want to get super clean? Invest in an electric toothbrush. “I believe power toothbrushes are the best way to achieve that ‘dentist clean’ feeling,” says Dr Ho. “My favourite is the Oral-B SmartSeries 7000 which uses oscillating-rotating-pulsating technology that is proven to remove up to twice as much plaque as a manual brush[i] and help you clean hard to reach places.”

Time to choose your wedding day lipstick! Not sure? Visit a department store makeup counter and ask a consultant to help you find the shade that best suits your skin tone (and the look you’re after on your big day). Picking your lip paint now gives you plenty of time to trial it on nights out – and, most importantly, check how it comes across in photos!

Exfoliate your lips using an old toothbrush. Do this once a week from now up until your wedding day. Follow up by applying a heavy duty lip balm for soft, plump peckers.
The day before
Do a hydrating face mask. (if you’ve purchased a face mask you haven’t used before, it’s a good idea to trial it a week or two before just to make sure your skin doesn’t have any scary reactions). Post-mask, you’ll feel glowy, radiant and ready to say ‘I do’!
