Celebs On Marriage

Because sometimes we just need a little help from our famous friends.

So you’ve accepted your guy’s proposal and are super excited for your wedding. We know – it’s huge. But what about the stuff that comes after the cake’s all gone, the white dress comes off and all the guests totter home to bed? We’re talking about that little thing called marriage… Yep, the actual ‘being wed’ part that happens post-wedding day. Will you still love him when you’re 65? And will he have finally learnt to stop checking Facebook on his phone while you’re talking to him? We don’t have a rule book for you on how to rock the whole being-a-wife thing – but we do have the next best thing – a bunch of enlightening quotes from some wise (and some maybe not so wise!) celebs on all things love and marriage. Enjoy (and feel free to forward on to the husby-to-be).

Will Ferrell
“Before you marry a person, you should first make them use a computer with slow internet to see who they really are.”

Ben Affleck
“There are two things for a marriage to be good. One is to work hard on it. The other one is to marry above you. And I succeeded at both of those.”

Gwyneth Paltrow
“I used to say to my dad, ‘How did you and mum stay married for all this time?’ And he’d say, ‘Two things. Number one: You gotta have the same dreams. One person can’t be daydreaming about walking down the street in Paris, if the other person wants to work in a coal mine. You’ve gotta want the same stuff. At number two, we never wanted to get divorced at the same time.'”

Barbara Streisand
“Why does a woman work ten years to change a man’s habits and then complain that he’s not the man she married?”

Cate Blanchett
“He thought I was aloof, and I thought he was arrogant. But once he kissed me, that was that. It just shows how wrong you can be. I was, and am, swept away. I believe there are some  things in life you can’t rationalise, and this is one of them.”

Sylvester Stallone
“I’ve got gaps, you’ve got gaps, we fill each other’s gaps… Love is absolute loyalty. People fade, looks fade, but loyalty never fades. You can depend so much on certain people; you can set your watch by them. And that’s love, even if it doesn’t seem very exciting.”

Reese Witherspoon
“There’s no bad consequence to loving fully, with all your heart. You always gain by giving love.”

Bruce Lee
“Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.”

Leann Rimes
“A good friend just told me that the key to a successful marriage was to argue naked! I’m gonna do that from now on, when that rarely happens.”

Coco Chanel
“As long as you know most men are like children, you know everything.”

Zsa Zsa Gabor
“Husbands are like fires. They go out when unattended.”

Tom Hanks
“There’s no substitute for a great love who says, ‘No matter what’s wrong with you, you’re welcome at this table.'”

Julia Roberts
“When you end up happily married, even the failed relationships have worked beautifully to get you there.”

Woody Allen
“The heart wants what it wants. There’s no logic to these things. You meet someone and you fall in love and that’s that.”
