Iconic bridal designer Monique Lhuillier showcased her latest collection at Bridal Fashion Week in NYC recently, and we were blown away by the gorgeous gowns. Displayed in an array of subtle and beautiful colours, the new pieces were romantic and flattering. This collection of wedding dresses was inspired by jewellery boxes and the little ballerina that sits inside them.
Monique’s designs show that you really can still be a gorgeous bride even if you don’t opt for a super traditional bridal look – think colour, short dresses and skirt-and-top combos.
“This season I was really excited about showing colour,” Monique told us. “It was all these subtle shades, but it felt right. Brides come to me and I always say, ‘It can still be your day without being in a white dress.’ I’m here to open up their minds a little bit.”
Feminine floral appliques were mixed with metallic beadwork, re-embroidered lace in soft sheath dresses, exaggerated trains, trumpet silhouettes and grandiose ballgowns. Models were accessorised with metallic floral motif headpieces that perfectly complemented the ballerina aesthetic.
