Wedding Hair Inspo: The Slicked-Back Chignon

Here's how to get model hair on your wedding day.

by Rebecca Hanley

The coverage of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week has had us wow-ing left, right and centre – but one runway moment in particular that has had us shaking with excitement in our beauty boots was the hair at Loris Azzaro.  Models sported a gorgeous slicked-back chignon that had us at hello. This ‘do is ladylike (translation: bride-appropes) with a too-cool touch, thanks to the tousled flyaways. In fact, if you’re wanting to wear your hair up for your big day, we think we’ve just found the pic you need to email to your hairstylist. Check it out below:

We bet this one would look seriously amazing with a little bridal embellishment – like flowers placed around the base of the chignon, think a floral spin on the model on the right, below:

Want some tips on how to recreate this look? We asked hairstylist Damien Boissinot for Moroccanoil, who oversaw the hair for the Loris Azzaro show, to talk us through it, step by step:

STEP 1: “The secret of this hairstyle was to give a lot of texture to the hair. First, I applied volumizing mousse on the lengths and ends. This adds moisture to the hair while creating volume and texture to prepare for the style.”

STEP 2: “I then brushed all of the hair back using hairspray to hold the lengths of the hair. I applied moulding cream on the hair at the top of the head, strand by strand, to create a very dry (matte) and slightly messy effect.”

STEP 3: “Next, I made a ponytail with a Japanese elastic, keeping the sides and nape very tight and smooth with a frizz control product. Then I lightly scrunched the lengths and twisted them in a bun, letting out a few wispy strands. ”

STEP 4: “The sides and neck of the hairstyle should be very clean and shiny. I finished with a final generous spray of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine on the sides of the head for a shiny, luminous result.”
