We’ve been engaged for one year now, and were to be married this November, with our photographer, celebrant, venue, cake, save-the-dates, dress… etc. all complete, and being paid in installments. Due to circumstances we had no control over, and situations that we could not prevent, we cannot financially continue with our plans, and we have (embarrassingly) had to announce to our guests that we have postponed our date 6 months, until next May.
The only upside to this is that now we will be married on our 3rd dating anniversary (tacky?), but due to our own anger and disappointment, we would still like to hold a small commitment ceremony and backyard party on our original date (also because some guests already booked flights), but we don’t want to overshadow our actual wedding with these celebrations. On the other hand, it’s a chance to have two very different parties which will make for an interesting story!
Have any of you done this/are planning something like this? And what is the best way for me to make this day special without overshadowing my actual wedding day?
